Beyond the Abyss!
Avalon’s seismic tools surpass the ‘underground Mt. Everest’ as they log Asia’s newest deepest well
March 2025
We are proud to see our borehole seismic receivers successfully used to perform a VSP within the deepest section of the 6.7 mile depth of the of the Shendi Take-1 exploration well. The record-breaking well is Asias’s deepest well and 2nd deepest in the world. The well is situated in the Tarim Basin in Shaya County, Aksu prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, China.

Beyond its engineering feats, the Shendi Take-1 well serves dual purposes: advancing scientific understanding of the Earth’s internal structure and evolution, and enhancing theories related to oil and gas accumulation in ultra-deep layers. The data collected is expected to provide valuable insights into geological formations dating back 500 million years, potentially leading to significant discoveries of oil and gas reserves.
EXTRA HIGH PRESSURE SEISMIC TOOLS!
Seismic logging to such unprecedented depths involves navigating extreme conditions, including ultra-high temperatures exceeding 200°C and pressures surpassing 130 MPa. To overcome the challenges of logging in such hostile environments, Avalon Sciences has developed our most advanced high pressure borehole seismic tool – ASR-EHP (Extra High Pressure) capable of reaching pressures of up to 206 MPA and temperatures up to 225C.

ASR-EHP with spring energised seals and ruggedized arm drive design, along with enhanced pressure housing, facilitate an additional 5000 psi of survivability compared to the ASR-HP to give 30,000 psi pressure rating. The ASR-EHP is fully compatible with all Geochain down-hole modules, inter-tool cables and surface equipment.
In Feb 2025 BGP’s 2517 VSP crew successfully deployed Avalon’s EHP Advanced Seismic Receivers down to near TD to 10780m and performed Vertical Seismic Profiles within the deepest part of the Earth’s crust at 10m intervals, performing in temperatures of up to 207C! This means that our tools have now even surpassed their previous records of logging down to 9000m TVD in the Pengsheng-6 Well, previously dubbed as Asia’s ‘underground Mt. Everest!’.
